The Árpád Göncz Social Institution has been operating as a Day Care Centre for people living with intellectual disabilities in Budapest since 1988. For over 20 years, it has offered weekly artistic programs for its participants. The institution engages numerous professional art educators to bring diversity and inspiration to daily life at the Centre, including folk and ballroom dance classes, music workshops, and an active film-making group whose members regularly take part in the Special Motion Picture Association’s film camps and have created award-winning films.
The Experimental Visual Studio (Más.Kép.Műhely) has been running for nearly 10 years, taking pride in its numerous exhibitions across the country, while the newly launched ceramics workshop, Még_ilyet!, successfully presents its products in various design shops.
Its mission is to support artistic development and free expression. Through regular programs and annual arts festivals, the institution celebrates participants’ talents, challenges stereotypes, and fosters recognition of people living with intellectual disabilities as creators.
The team is enthusiastic and dedicated, led by a supportive director who ensures infrastructure and resources for all activities. They also participate in international projects, bringing innovation and a collaborative spirit to inclusive arts initiatives. For the past four years, the institution has been involved in long-term Erasmus+ projects across various themes and artistic disciplines. Participants have traveled abroad multiple times, taking an active role in mobility activities and practicing intercultural dialogue. In the Spiral program, six artists with disabilities from the institution contributed their skills and creativity, further strengthening their international engagement.
